Cloudflare Review

8.9/ 10 - our editorial score

Nobody can compete with free, unlimited static hosting on one of the fastest networks on earth. Cloudflare Pages and Workers are the default answer for static sites and an aggressive bargain for dynamic ones, if you can live with the non-Node runtime.

Pros

  • Static hosting is genuinely free and unlimited: no bandwidth caps, ever
  • Runs on the same 330+ city network that fronts a fifth of the web
  • Workers Paid at $5/mo is absurdly cheap for 10M dynamic requests
  • No egress fees anywhere in the ecosystem, including R2 object storage
  • DDoS protection and SSL included by default

Cons

  • Workers runtime is not Node.js; some npm packages and frameworks need adaptation
  • Dashboard and docs sprawl across a huge product surface and can overwhelm
  • Support below Business tier is essentially community and tickets

Our Cloudflare review

Cloudflare's developer platform is built on an advantage no startup can replicate: the company already runs a network in 330+ cities that fronts a huge fraction of the web, and serving your static files from it costs Cloudflare approximately nothing. So it charges approximately nothing. Requests to static assets on Workers and Pages are free and unlimited on every plan, including the $0 one. No bandwidth meter, no overage, no non-commercial clause.

That single fact reorders the whole category. The bandwidth anxiety that defines Vercel and Netlify pricing simply does not exist here. A static site that goes viral costs you the same as one nobody visits: nothing. For blogs, docs, portfolios, marketing sites and anything else that compiles to files, Cloudflare is the rational default in 2026.

Dynamic code runs on Workers, Cloudflare's edge runtime. The free plan includes 100,000 requests a day with 10 ms of CPU each, which comfortably covers a contact form or an API for a side project. The Workers Paid plan is $5 a month for 10 million included requests and 30 million CPU-milliseconds, with overages at $0.30 per extra million requests. Compare that with what 10 million function invocations cost anywhere else and the value score on this review explains itself.

The trade-off is the runtime. Workers is V8 isolates, not Node.js. Compatibility has improved enormously and most major frameworks now ship official Cloudflare adapters, but some npm packages, long CPU-bound tasks and traditional server patterns still need rework. The surrounding ecosystem (KV, D1 SQLite databases, R2 storage with zero egress fees, Queues, Durable Objects) is powerful but has its own learning curve, and the dashboard reflects a company with two hundred products.

Support is the honest weakness: below the Business tier you are working from docs, community and tickets. Cloudflare is also mid-migration from the older Pages product to Workers with static assets, so expect some documentation whiplash about which one to start with (the answer for new projects is Workers).

Verdict: for static sites there is no argument to have, and for dynamic workloads that fit the Workers model the pricing is unbeatable. Teams needing plain Node servers or hand-holding support should look at Render or Railway instead.

Frequently asked questions

Is Cloudflare Pages really free with unlimited bandwidth?

Yes. Static requests are free and unlimited on all plans. The free plan's real limits are 500 builds a month and the 100,000 requests/day cap that applies only to dynamic Workers code, not static files.

Can I run a Node.js server on Cloudflare?

Not directly. Workers is a V8 isolate runtime with a Node compatibility layer that covers most popular packages, and frameworks like Next.js, Astro, Remix and SvelteKit have official adapters. Apps that need a true long-running Node process belong on Render, Railway or Fly instead.

Bottom line

Nobody can compete with free, unlimited static hosting on one of the fastest networks on earth. Cloudflare Pages and Workers are the default answer for static sites and an aggressive bargain for dynamic ones, if you can live with the non-Node runtime.
